"come hang out with me" blakey said, "i'll show you round dartford's museum, tell you local ghost stories and even make you breakfast". it was all i needed to hear to hop on a train and spend some time exploring a side to dartford town centre i haven't ever really considered before. especially its charity shopping scene which is currently gripped with what appears to be royal wedding fever. blakey, you see, had tipped me off about some incredible princess diana plates and jigsaw puzzles up for grabs. it was also an opportunity to admire her latests acquisitions - a 1928 atlas and an autoharp, in need of some tuning!
for £3.50 i managed to procure some completely amazing books; some fine additions to my 70's cookbook collection, a charming radio data charts book (more on that later!) and of course, some prince charles and princess diana memorabilia:
with so many books to gawp at there wasn't enough time, money or spare hands to get too carried away with much more of dartford's charity shopping offerings but right now, i must say, it is rich and teeming with incredible stuff. i had to resist a gorgeous typewriter and this dinner set, whilst not in the best condition, was a snip at £35...
suffice to say, dartford charity treasure hunting is firmly on my radar right now and the moment i have some money to play with, i'll be running back for more!
oh, and by the way, the breakfast was perfect...
